Safety Of Bellabee

One of the first things I checked out before I bought a Bellabee was “is it safe?”.  If this device is going to be sitting on my head for hours at a time, it had better be helping and not hindering.

I’m one of those people who doesn’t like putting a cellphone close to my ears, so I needed to be sure it was safe to use a Bellabee.  I’m also very interested in wellness, and was curious as to whether this device was actually going to help me.

Level Of Power Being Used

The best way I have heard it described, is that it uses less power than headphones use.  So if you are ok with using headphones, you should also be more than ok with using a Bellabee.

Measure The Level Of Power Yourself

There are devices you can use to measure just how much power they are generating.  In fact you need to be careful when you measure it, to be sure it’s not picking up any other sources – meaning it’s a really small amount.

If you wonder if the Bellabee is still working, there is a device you can purchase to confirm this, and measure the power.  The device is called an Electric Radiation Tester, and they are available for around $30 on Amazon.  Here’s a link to the Mustool brand tester.

PEMF Studies

And if there were problems with using PEMF therapy, then there would not be over 20,000 research papers from the National Centre for Biotechnology Information showing that this is helping people with various disorders such as clinical depression and anxiety.

There have also been 2,000 double blind studies completed on PEMF therapy.

Some of the papers may require professional membership to download, but I found plenty of studies available in peminfo.com, like this these:

Mechanisms and therapeutic applications of electromagnetic therapy in Parkinson’s disease

Preliminary evidence for a beneficial effect of low-frequency, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in patients with major depression and schizophrenia

Novel Augmentation Strategies in Major Depression

Testing the effectiveness in a group of people with clinical depression.  Response and remission rates were 61% in the PEMF group vs 12% in the sham treated group, which is statistically significant.

FDA Policy

In September 2019, the FDA issued an update regarding low risk general wellness products.  A low risk device is determined by not being invasive or implanted, and does not emit lazers or radiation (abridged).  The FDA is basically saying they don’t intend to examine low risk devices.  Link the to FDA statement.

Further Research

There is encouraging research about how PEMF therapy can help with treatment of various brain disorders such as:

  • Alzheimers
  • Parkinsons
  • Motor neurone disease

This is an area that is experiencing a lot of focus, and should lead to a lot more treatment programs, and hopefully a more targeted way of finding the best program for individuals.  In fact Bellabee themselves are going to be involved in some of this exciting research.

Further Reading

As a final note, it would be remiss of me not to mention how diet can impact the brain both positively and of course negatively.  There are two books that I have read over the years that I found incredibly helpful.  If you are able to please check these out – they are both written by leading neurologists.
